This is my favourite Set Up Configuration, although I am mainly seen
playing on big set up's. In fact I always take this configuration as a
reference and only then I start building up the set and incorporating more elements to respond to
musical needs.
I could say that on my jazz gigs I like to keep it simple, choosing a
four piece kit with small dimensions. On my hip hop and funk gigs
sometimes I go very small, to a two piece kit (only bass drum and snare)
or if the music needs then I start building the kit up towards a five or a six piece.
Finally on my jazz-fusion, drum and bass I usually go for an eight piece kit.
According to cymbals, I always like
to stay open minded and choose the right sounds and textures that matches
and fits with the music.
Although
I like to stay open minded towards my Cymbal set up, I have to say that
I am a big Fan of Ride Cymbals, I think that they bring a great spectum
of colours into the Music. There are some gigs where I go for a
set of 4 rides only. I find it great to ride, splash and crash on top of
them.
The
Hi Hats and Snares are two elements that I always choose independently
from
the rest of the Kit.
I choose them in function of the Music style.
I can say that for my drum and bass Project I like to have crisp and
well defined type of Hi Hat and Snare sound, so I use my 14" Dry Byzance
HH plus the 12" Safari HH Generation X and a 10"x5.5" Black Panther.
On my funk or Jazz gigs I like to have a more open sound, so I would
rather go
for the 14" Medium Byzance HH and a 13"x5.5" or a 14"x5.5" Black
Panther. |
